When we feel sad
بسم الله والحمد الله
والصلاة واسلام على رسول الله
Whenever you feel sad, try to focus on the reason you are here, it is a great anchor for when you may feel lost.
Allah (ﷻ) Says:
“I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me.”
- [Surah adh-Dhariyat Qur’an; 51:56]
˹He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving.
- [Surah al-Mulk 67:2]
Focus on pleasing Allah (ﷻ) and He will make you content.
Allah (ﷻ) Says:
“Whoever works righteousness — whether male or female — while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter).”
- [al-Nahl 16:97]
This life will come with hardships. Try to be patient through them and ask Allah (ﷻ) to assist you in that.
Allah (ﷻ) Says:
“But give glad tidings to As- Sabirun (the patient). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: ‘Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.’ They are those on whom are the Salawat (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones.”
- [al-Baqarah 2:155-157]
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“How wonderful is the situation of the believer, for all his affairs are good. If something good happens to him, he gives thanks for it and that is good for him; if something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience, and that is good for him. This does not apply to anyone but the believer.”
- [Sahih Muslim]
Try to focus on connecting with the Quran and Sunnah.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever is focused only on this world, Allah will confound his affairs and make him fear poverty constantly, and he will not get anything of this world except that which has been decreed for him. Whoever is focused on the Hereafter, Allah will settle his affairs for him and make him feel content with his lot, and his provision and worldly gains will undoubtedly come to him.”
- [Sunan ibn Majah - Sahih]
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
Many people, when they see evil or when the Muslim ummah goes through a lot of trouble, panic, lose hope and start complaining as people who are beset by calamities do. But this is forbidden; rather what is enjoined is to be patient, to put one’s trust in Allah, to be steadfast in adhering to the religion of Islam and to believe that Allah is with those who fear Him and those who do good, and that the best end is for those who fear Him; whatever befalls him is because of his sins, so he should be patient, for the promise of Allah is true; he should seek forgiveness for his sins and glorify and praise his Lord morning and evening. - [Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa, 18/295]
Ask Allah (ﷻ) for all your needs, keep turning to Him and know that He Hears you.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Let one of you ask his Lord for his needs, all of them, even for a shoestring when his breaks.”
- [Sunan at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]
“(The du’aa’) of any one of you will be answered so long as he is not hasty in seeking a response and does not say, ‘I prayed but I have not had a response.’”
- [Sahih al-Bukhaari & Sahih Muslim]
.
“There is no Muslim who calls upon Allah, without sin or cutting family ties, but that Allah will give him one of three answers: He will quickly fulfill his supplication, He will store it for him in the Hereafter, or He will divert an evil from him similar to it.” They said, “In that case we will ask for more.” The Prophet said, “Allah has even more.”
- [Musnad Ahmad - Sahih]
You will find that once you focus on pleasing Allah (ﷻ) you will become more productive and happy. Even if it feels like everyone is upset with you, know that Allah (ﷻ) will be Pleased with you so long as you are keen to please Him:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"When Allah loves a slave, calls out Jibril and says: 'I love so-and-so; so love him'. Then Jibril loves him. After that he (Jibril) announces to the inhabitants of heavens that Allah loves so- and-so; so love him; and the inhabitants of the heavens (the angels) also love him and then make people on earth love him".
- [Sahih al- Bukhari & Sahih Muslim]
